An experienced and respected colleague once said to me “The work is easy. It’s the people part that keeps me up at night!”. It’s a sentiment I have heard often when working with leaders.
Sometimes it’s unreliable and inconsistent management processes that are at the root of “people problems”. Sometimes it’s unclear expectations or muddled communication that gets in the way of excellence. And sometimes it’s our own habits and behaviours that must change.
